The manual “The Ukrainian Language for Foreign Students” consists of Introduction and four parts. In Introduction the basic grammar and lexical courses of the Ukrainian language are presented. The exercises that are offered in this section contain limited thesaurus that will be useful for students in acquiring basic types of simple sentences as well as basic knowledge of the Ukrainian grammar such as singular and plural forms, Infinitive, Present, Past and Future Tenses. The Introduction also includes the main ways of expressing place and time of an action, affirmative and objectionable forms of the verb. The tasks are aimed at teaching students to build different types of sentences as well as to understand and apply simple structures. Thus, the introductory part gives the basis for future deeper learning of the Ukrainian language. The main course is divided into four parts as follows: 1) the use of cases; 2) verb forms; 3) complex sentences; 4) Ukrainian texts with dictionary. One of the main difficulties in the Ukrainian language is the category of cases that was paid much attention to. In the Ukrainian language pronunciation and conjugation have the whole system of forms that express different opinions. As a rule, it is difficult for foreign students to understand that. However, it is impossible to speak Ukrainian without knowing all the cases and without learning all the forms for fluent speaking. That defines the aim of the main course, its structure and a number of exercises in every part of it. The order of learning and practicing the cases is assembled in the manual due to the experience of teaching the academic discipline “Ukrainian as a foreign language”. First and foremost, students study grammar structures that are widely used in everyday situations and learn how to name objects first. The exercises will help students not only understand the forms of cases but also structures, where they are used. The third part considers the creation of complex sentences. Students should master the structure of complex sentences and common forms of subordinating conjunctions and words. Special attention is given to such conjunctions as what, which, that as foreign students make most of mistakes using them in sentences. The fourth part is full of interesting texts about unique people and places in Ukraine. There is a Ukrainian-English glossary for each text for quicker comprehension and understanding of the topic.

Навчальний посібник створений з метою допомогти англомовним студентам краще засвоїти граматичний курс з української мови. Книга складається з чотирьох частин: у першій частині закріплюються початкові елементарні знання з української мови; у другій і третій – пояснюється більш складний мовний матеріал. Усі частини мають логічне продовження у практичних завданнях та вправах із граматики. У четвертій частині подано тексти для читання зі словниками для кращого ознайомлення студентів з Україною та відомими на весь світ українцями. Книга стане в нагоді студентам, які вже мають початковий курс з української мови, а також для тих, хто хоче поповнити свої знання. Рекомендовано для студентів вищих навчальних закладів, слухачів підготовчих курсів, а також для всіх шанувальників української мови.
