В.; Vydobora, V.
The dynamics and structural changes of Ukraine's economy during 1991-2023 are examined in this article. Key macroeconomic indicators, including GDP, inflation rate, external debt, foreign direct investment, export and import structure, are analyzed. Major problems of Ukraine’s economic development are identified, among which are deindustrialization, reduction of high-technology industries’ share, growing import dependence, and raw material export orientation. The economic transformations from a Soviet-type planned economy to a market economy are traced, which were accompanied by significant structural changes and economic activity disorganization that affected the country's overall economic growth. It is observed that the implemented reforms aimed at introducing market mechanisms and privatization of large enterprises have destroyed the industrial foundation of the economy. The closure of thousands of industrial enterprises, accompanied by deindustrialization, declining levels of science and education, and stagnation of technical progress, has led to a weakened economy. Ukraine's integration into the world market as a supplier of raw materials and products with low added value has resulted in technical dependence on industrially developed countries and reduced opportunities for economic breakthrough. The transformation from an economy with moderate export openness to an export-oriented one is highlighted, while maintaining significant in equivalence in Ukraine's participation in foreign trade of goods. The necessity of transitioning from a ‘growth without development’ model to an economic breakthrough strategy based on industrial potential restoration, technological modernization, and domestic demand stimulation is substantiated. The importance of creating an effective industrial policy that would support high value-added sectors rather than primarily raw material sectors is emphasized. It is concluded that without a powerful industrial complex, the country’s economy remains vulnerable to external crises and incapable of sustainable development.

Г.С. М.; Sirenko, A.; Berezorudskyi, A.
The article examines the geographic distribution of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows to Ukraine from the European Union countries. The volumes, dynamics, and share of EU investment flows in total capital inflows are examined, emphasizing their leading role in shaping overall investment activity. The comparison of investment distribution across EU countries in 2021 and 2025 is carried out, allowing the identification of structural changes in investment flows. The research reveals that investment flows are concentrated within a limited group of countries, particularly Cyprus, France, the Netherlands, and Poland, which play a dominant role in the formation of FDI inflows to Ukraine. The presence of cases where capital withdrawals exceed inflows for certain countries is also identified, indicating imbalances in investment activity. The impact of the roundtripping phenomenon on the geographical structure of FDI is considered, showing that a part of investments formally recorded as foreign may have domestic origin and return through intermediary jurisdictions. The article highlights the importance of accounting for such mechanisms when analyzing the geographic distribution of FDI inflows and identifying the actual sources of capital.

О.; Berezorudskyi, A.; Sirenko, A.
Foreign direct investment is an important factor in the development of the national economy, as it helps attract financial resources, technology, and management expertise. At the same time, modern investment processes in Ukraine are characterized by a complex structure in which round-tripping transactions play a significant role, which can substantially affect the volume and actual nature of investment flows.

Л.; Berezorudskyi, A.; Osadchyi, M.
The rapid development of the digital economy, the spread of information and communication technologies, and the growing role of data as a strategic resource are shaping new operating conditions for Ukraine’s water transport enterprises. In today’s economic environment, a company’s competitiveness is increasingly determined not only by the availability of material resources or infrastructure capacity, but also by its ability to effectively use information to make management decisions, forecast market trends, and develop innovative approaches to doing business. In this regard, the development of modern business models for the water transport sector—based on the use of business analytics tools and ensuring that enterprises adapt to the demands of the digital economy—takes on particular importance. The development of such models makes it possible to improve the efficiency of enterprises, ensure their integration into international logistics systems, and create conditions for the industry’s sustainable development in the long term.
