Dollarization in CEE Countries

Abstract

It is generalized the views of scientists on the essence of the studied category; it is established the presence of a high degree of pluralism, in particular among Ukrainian researchers. It is given the authors’ definition, according to which the necessary conditions for dollarization in the economy are: the recognition by residents the ability of foreign currency to perform one or more national money’s functions and systematic use of such currency in cash and / or non-cash circulation. It is stated that the high level of dollarization indicates the substitutionary competition between national and foreign money, in which the last ones considered as a key to entering the global financial and commodity markets.Узагальнено погляди науковців на сутність досліджуваної категорії, встановлено наявність високого ступеню плюралізму, зокрема серед українських дослідників. Подано авторське визначення, відповідно до якого необхідними умовами наявності доларизації в економіці є: визнання з боку резидентів спроможності іноземної валюти виконувати одну або декілька функцій національних грошей, і систематичне використання цієї валюти в готівковому та/або безготівковому обігу. Встановлено, що високий рівень доларизації свідчить про субституційну конкуренцію між національними та іноземними грошима, в якій останні розглядаються як ключ до виходу на світові фінансові та товарні ринки.
